چکیده

We consider the time dependent Stokes equation on a finite time interval and on a uniform rectangular mesh, written in terms of velocity and pressure. A parallel algorithm based on a direction splitting approach is implemented. We are targeting the massively parallel computer as well as clusters of many-core nodes. The implementation is tested on the IBM Blue Gene/P supercomputer and two Linux clusters. We compared the results from the direction splitting algorithm with the results from Finite Element software package for solving of Stokes equation.

A Scalable Auxiliary Space Preconditioner for High-order Finite Element Methods

In this paper, we revisit an auxiliary space preconditioning method proposed by Xu [Computing 56, 1996], in which low-order finite element spaces are employed as auxiliary spaces for solving linear algebraic systems arising from high-order finite element discretizations. We provide a new convergence rate estimate and parallel implementation of the proposed algorithm. We show that this method is...

Performance Modeling of PDE Solvers

In this chapter, we collect actual CPU time measurements of a number of prototypical PDE simulators for solving the Poisson equation, the linear elasticity equation, the heat conduction equation, the equations of nonlinear water waves, the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, and many more. We show how these measurements can be used to establish performance models of the form: t = C n, which...

Scalable robust solvers for unstructured FE geodynamic modeling applications: Solving the Stokes equation for models with large localized viscosity contrasts

[1] The development of scalable robust solvers for unstructured finite element applications related to viscous flow problems in earth sciences is an active research area. Solving high-resolution convection problems with order of magnitude 10 degrees of freedom requires solvers that scale well, with respect to both the number of degrees of freedom as well as having optimal parallel scaling chara...

A comparative study between two numerical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations

The present study aimed to investigate two numerical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations. For this purpose, the mentioned flow equations were written in two different formulations, namely (i) velocity-pressure and (ii) vorticity-stream function formulations. Solution algorithms and boundary conditions were presented for both formulations and the efficiency of each formulation was investiga...

High Performance Computing Using Out-of- Core Sparse Direct Solvers

In-core memory requirement is a bottleneck in solving large three dimensional Navier-Stokes finite element problem formulations using sparse direct solvers. Out-of-core solution strategy is a viable alternative to reduce the in-core memory requirements while solving large scale problems. This study evaluates the performance of various out-of-core sequential solvers based on multifrontal or supe...
